I am a multimedia artist with experience in theatre, music, film, writing, design, photography and illustration. I specialize in devised ensemble theatre, leading teams in the collaborative development of new work, and in front-end web development, exploring the cutting-edge of HTML and CSS.

Formerly the Artistic Director of New World Arts and Technical Director of The LIDA Project, I am now the lead designer at OddBird, make music with Teacup Gorilla and Rachel Eisenstat & Iron City, devise experimental words and movements with Vicious Trap, developed and maintain the Susy responsive grid framework for web designers, and am a core developer on the Compass team.

The Carrot Project is a community of socialy and environmentally conscious consumers interested in tracking and supporting the 'crunchiest' brands and companies. The challenge was to maintain a strong community with the ability to manage complex discussions and rankings collectively.

My responsibilities included research and development, information architecture, brand design and consulting, graphic design, user interface design, front-end development and custom Django CMS integration. The project is still in beta.

The Steel Wheels

The Steel Wheels

The Steel Wheels are an Americana band, rooted in musical styles that explore the territories between blues and bluegrass, old-time sing-alongs and foot-stomping fiddle tunes. The site is not only a platform for disc sales and tour calendars, but an expansion of the band's personality and interaction with fans.

My responsibilities included research and development, information architecture, brand consulting, graphic design, user interface design, front-end development and custom Django CMS integration. Launched February 5, 2010.

Teacup Gorilla

Teacup Gorilla is a new indie-rock band forming in Denver, CO. Petite, deadly and focused on structural exploration, these three multi-instrumentalists (myself included) mix unexpected sounds and genres into tight, evocative soundscapes. The site is a placeholder as we begin to develop the brand in more detail. I am working with the band to plan, design and develop a full brand and marketing package.

Into The Green Green Mud

Into The Green Green Mud

Into The Green Green Mud is a multimedia novel of association, reference, sounds, images and movement. A story of true and transient love, here and gone, because anything more would be greedy. The site is a frame with compatible styles, but the simplicity to let the images and words of the novel take center stage.

This was built entirely on my own with Django, HTML5, CSS3 and Compass, Sass and Susy. It launched November 2009.

OddBird is the design and development firm that I founded with my brothers. We thrive on possibilities and daydreams, freely shared ideas, and playful collaboration. We love making ideas happen. This is another placeholder site as we develop a more complete brand strategy. We need to communicate our professional skill level along with a playful and approachable attitude.

Susy

Susy is a responsive grid framework for designers, using the power of Sass and Compass to automate the difficult math and monotonous repetition of bullet-proof, flexible grids. The site is simple and practical, depending heavily on the underlying grid structures.

I was responsible for the entire site and process, working with Django, HTML5, CSS3, Compass, Sass and Susy. Launched May 2010.

I specialize in clean and accessible content-focused design and code. I have been an early adopter, exploring the boundaries of both html5 and css3, as well as an advocate of microformats, sass and other cutting-edge techniques.

I have 6 years of experience developing templates for for various content management systems and web frameworks, specializing in Django and Wordpress. I also have experience with Zen Cart, Drupal, Movable Type, Haiku and other systems.

Sass Development

A stylesheet authoring tool that uses the Sass language to make your stylesheets smaller and your web site easier to maintain.

After developing one of the leading compass plugins I was asked to join the core development team.

Susy

A responsive grid system for designers, building grids that respond fluidly to user viewport and font sizes without repetitive and monotonous code.

pure css plugins

I have developed and/or ported several semantic css solutions into Compass. You can find all of my Compass-related projects on github.

Back-end Development

PHP and WordPress

I have extensive experience developing custom sites with php and WordPress as both a blogging and content-management tool.

Python and Django

I also have extensive experience developing with Django templates, and am comfortable writing back-end Django code to build small Django sites.
